National Scrapbooking Day

by SteveSaturday, April 24, 2004

Start May by celebrating friends and family: start scrapping. Saturday, May 1st is National Scrapbooking Day. This day is dedicated to the joys of the hottest new hobby in the crafts industry, scrapbooking.

"Scrapbooking combines family history and contemporary crafts in a fun and interesting way, bringing together adults and children alike," said Fran Saperstein, Publisher of A-Z Magazines and Scrapbooking.com Magazine. "Scrapbooking continues to be the fastest-growing hobby in the crafts industry, with over 21% of all American households scrapbooking an average of 20 hours each month."

On National Scrapbooking Day, many of the nation's 4,200+ scrapbooking specialty stores help to celebrate scrapbooking: there are special sales, all day scrapbooking parties (called crops) and classes. All these events are focused not only on the photographs, but also on sharing techniques and time with family and friends.

Scrapbooking.com Magazine supports retailers and consumers with monthly articles, projects, and free weekly newsletters that focus on industry trends and new products. Over 100 new projects are available each month, with over 40 months of past articles in the online live archives. Scrapbooking.com Magazine maintains a calendar of events to support retailers and consumers throughout the nation.

The Digital Scrapbook Place

by SteveThursday, April 01, 2004

A new scrapbooking website launched today, called, "Digital Scrapbook Place". The website creators claim their site is designed to provide inspiration, support, and a feeling of community amongst the artists that visit there. It offers software tutorials, design activities, and Internet links to relevant online resources such as downloadable fonts, inspiring photography, and useful photo printing services. The DSP Shop has pre-made digital designs for sale, one can find educational assistance at the DSP University, and members can post their own layout creations in the Gallery.

The Digital Scrapbook Place is the brainstorm of three creative women who befriended one another through a mutual interest in the art of digital scrapbook design. Their goal was to create a website that would give scrapbookers a forum to meet in the interest of sharing their art and inspiration.
